International Shipwreck Festival 2019

On February 9^th, 2019, in the morning hours, the 8^th International Shipwreck Festival begins at the University of Warsaw. As usual, we have prepared a marathon of very interesting presentations for you – this time there will be 29 of them! Our guests will be the best wreck divers in the world, deep ocean explorers, historians, and archaeologists – you can find their profiles in the „Speakers” tab.

As part of the festival program, as in the previous years, we have also prepared a few ceremonious book premieres.

The online sale of tickets has begun, which will last through February 3^rd, 2019. The price of a single ticket remains unchanged – PLN 100. However, if there are free seats remaining, tickets can be bought the day of the festival for cash only at the price of PLN 140.

After the marathon of festival presentations, we invite you to a festive banquet that will take place in the historic buildings of the University of Warsaw. During the banquet, exquisite dishes and alcoholic beverages will be served. The organizers have prepared a unique program. It is enough to mention that David Mearns, the discoverer of the famous line cruiser HMS „Hood”, will tell you how the ship’s bell was found and recovered, which can be admired in Portsmouth. In turn, Richie Kohler, the hero of the best-selling book „Shadow Divers”, will take us on a unique journey in time; with humor, he will talk about his unusually colorful 40-year career as a wreck diver. The festival speakers will also share their exploration plans for the near future.

During the banquet, a dry suit funded by our sponsor, OTTER, a British company, will be raffled off. An invitation to a banquet can only be purchased online for PLN 200.

A unique presentation

Chris Jewell, the cave diver who took part in the unprecedented operation of saving the 12 boys in the Thai cave, Tham Luang, will tell you in detail what was going on in the heart of this operation and how dangerous and bravado it turned out to be.

World premiere

Richie Kohler will present the documentary „Dark Waters, The Perseus Survivor” – the first of a 12 episode series. Richie will also speak about the German U-boat attack on a passenger ship in the Gulf of Mexico and the related mystery.

Exhibition of 3D graphics

Waldemar Góralski is the author of an exceptional collection of 3D graphics devoted to the battleship USS „Arizona” and the Polish escort destroyer ORP “Kujawiak”. The viewers, with the participation and commentary of Góralski, will have the opportunity to feel like they are on a real ship… and touch the „protruding” details from these images.

Underwater photography exhibition

Great Polish underwater photographer, Kuba Koncytowicz, will present his underwater works. Beautiful photos printed in large format will be presented on festival.

After all of the festival’s presentations, at 20:45, the banquet will take place in the historical buildings of the University of Warsaw.

All speakers and representatives of sponsors will take part in this event.

Statuettes

The festival’s guests will be voting on the best exploration project, the best festival presentation, and the most interesting exhibition during the festival and statuettes will be given to the winners during the banquet. Statuettes will also go to the person who will donate the most valuable item to the festival’s charity auction as well as to the person who will place the highest bid.
